All that belongs to any man is himself and his energy. All he can give to any man or men is his services and all that he can receive is services in return. To be exchanged abundantly, services must be incorporated into goods and by exchange of goods the services are exchanged. The prices of the market are indexes of the exchange relationship between commodities and services. Without these indexes there could be no peaceable trade; force alone would rule exchanges, instead of agreements. Where there are agreements there is a market and prices appear. With exchange of services comes division of labor and out of this comes the mastery of nature and abundance of every kind.
