Carbon of a letter to a poet, Madeline Mason-Manheim, 77 Park Avenue, New York NY

April 5, 1941

Dear Miss Mason:

This is just a line to let you know that I will be meeting one of my daughters in New York on April l0th returning from a Caribbean Cruise. I would like you to meet her. How about some tea at the Town Hall Club about four o’clock on the 17th?

Her interests, apart from a pretty efficient domesticity, are amateur dramatics and decorative effects, card playing (!!!). She also has a flare for and a quiet interest in philosophy when she gets in the right company for it, and I always find her easy on the disposition.

I expect to be attending Dr. Malisoff’s Seminar on the 13th, and hope to see you there, if not elsewhere.

I will probably be in New York a week or more. It may be that I will have the pleasure of meeting some of your interesting friends and serious interest groups, as I believe was once suggested.

I remember with much pleasure the ride, the air, and the scenes and the sap, even including the willows, and have been hoping some of this would leaf out and possibly reach me in poetic form ere now, not to mention that apostrophe to beauty, and two or three other charming original things you were kind enough to recite. The buds are bursting down here; I hope it is the same in your groves of poesy.

     With very best wishes.

Cordially yours,

  Spencer Heath
