Carbon of a letter to Mrs. Gene Bolles, 57 West 45th Street, New York City

May 14, 1942

My dear Mrs. Bolles:

My “material” to which your letter of the sixth refers sets out some discoveries of empiric processes in the social phenomena comparable in all respects to those of Newton and Galileo in the “natural” world and, in addition, discloses a rational technique at once of social growth and of individual enrichment (in the business sense) that needs only to be seen to be desired and, as a matter of course, applied.

If, upon twenty minutes examination, it does not commend itself to your intelligent and active interest, and without prejudice, then either it is worthless or it has fallen into wholly wrong and unsuitable hands. In either of these cases, please be kind enough to deliver it to the United States Trust Company, Attention of Mr. H. J. Simmen, Assistant Vice President, 45 Wall Street in your city.  I enclose my check for one dollar to cover possible costs.

I am happy to pay liberally for actual services, but not a penny of penalty to remove an arbitrary imputation of personal disqualification. When I told Mr. Dorey that Ann Watkins had passed upon my “material” he spoke favorably of you by name only and without further information. I naturally supposed that her terms were the customary ones.

Thanking you for your trouble, I am,

Very Sincerely yours,

SH:M
