Carbon of a letter from Heath to Eddie Rickenbacker, Eastern Airlines, Inc., 10 Rockefeller Plaza, New York 20, New York.
September 24, 1957
Dear “Eddie” Rickenbacker:
Some men can dream, and some can do. Seldom can the same do both. But you are an outstanding example of one who can.
You and I and a few others were in at the beginning of perhaps the greatest technological development of the modern age. You have carried on. I wandered away into newer and even wilder dreams of wonders yet to come. I want you, in moments of relaxation, to share this vision. So I am sending you a copy of my “engineers report” on the coming new developments in public administration that will redeem it from a political instrument merely of taxation and destruction into a mighty creator of endless wealth and welfare for mankind.
Please accept this copy of Citadel, Market and Altar as my admiring tribute to another mind that can dream and can also do.
Cordially,
SH/m
