Carbon of a letter from Heath to F. A. Harper.
September 18, 1958
Dear Dr. Harper:
I feel very much complimented by your request for a photograph. Since receiving your last pleasant communication, I have had several new copies made, one of which I am very happy to send you herewith.
I enjoyed knowing you and your family so much, it seems almost a personal loss to have you go so far away. However, that Western climate seems perhaps a bit richer in libertarian sentiment and thought; so I hope you will find in it perhaps even greater freedom for your own forward-looking than you have had up to now.
I think it highly significant that at least a few professional economists are looking in the direction of the natural sciences for inspiration towards similar progress in the economic and social field. In this, it seems to me that you are, if not the only definite example, at least the most outstanding one.
My own general philosophical outlook anticipates, for the near or possibly distant future, a general merger of all the objective sciences, each with its appropriate place within a united, universal pattern — yet each with its specific practical technology for the advancement and improvement of the human organization, both individual and social.
My very many best wishes to you, personally as well as professionally, and to all your very charming household.
Sincerely,
Spencer Heath
