Dictation notes to MacCallum for a letter (not sent), To Frederika Blankner, Adelphi College.
December 1958?
Dear Dr. Blankner:
How have things come along with you since I left New York last Friday the 19th? I was sorry not to be able to see my very, very good friend, Louis Solomon, before I left, but will be sure to do so sometime in January.
About the Matchette Foundation, whatever has happened there? Your matter was still in suspense at last accounts, and I am hoping the precipitation has been or will be good.
I am wondering if Adelphi College or Myrine Institute would not like to have a talk or a paper along the lines indicated in the circular I enclose. This describes a series of six talks, but any one of them can be made complete in itself. In any case, I would speak as a representative of the Science of Society Foundation, Inc., the Purposes of which Foundation I enclose in a second circular.
The subject of education is very dear to me. I look upon teaching, ideally, as the finest of all the fine arts, and the technique — the theoretical objects and know-how — of that fine art has been my preoccupation for a long time. I can present some very arresting ideas along that line involving the ultimate mission of a liberal arts college.
About those learned societies we spoke of, I would love to lead or at least participate in a seminar dealing with the philosophic basis of the natural sciences or any of them. I have a great deal to contribute in this field, much of which is new and unique and is foreshadowed in my Citadel, Market and Altar, to which I hope you may have given some attention by this time.
This is the season when almost everything is, and should be, seasonal with good wishes, none of which, I am sure, can be more sincere than mine for you.
Cordially,
SH
