Carbon of letter from Heath at 312 Halesworth Street, Santa Ana, California, to John Monroe, a friend from the earliest Single-Tax days in Chicago before the turn of the century
August 24, 1961
Dear John:
Quite a while since I have seen or heard anything from you, and it occurs to me now that I may not have complied with your request that I send a copy of Citadel, Market and Altar to someone that you wrote me about. In case I did not, I am now mailing you a copy, which you can forward to him or use for some other good purpose as you wish.
It was fine seeing you and those business men associates as I came through Chicago last fall. I was happy to observe how readily they took on to the idea of a form of public administration other than political, namely the proprietary form. In St. Louis and in Dallas, I had similar experience, and now Spencer MacCallum has just received his Master’s degree in anthropology on the basis of a thesis dealing very readably with this mode of community, past, present and future.
Out here, I have had a year among the colleges at Claremont as a guest of the Harvey Mudd College of Science & Engineering and am now negotiating matters with Pepperdine College, in Los Angeles, looking in the same direction. Among other things, they are planning courses in real estate administration with a special view to elaboration of the proprietary principle.
I hope everything you are doing is going fine and to have another visit with you and Marian and your fine younger generation.
With all the best wishes,
Cordially,
