Carbon of a letter from Heath re Citadel, Market & Altar to Wilhelm Roepke, 43 Avenue de Champel, Geneva, Switzerland. Undated but probably about New Year’s 1958

Dear Prof. Roepke:

I am wondering if you found any opportunity to make an examination of my CITADEL, MARKET AND ALTAR, copy of which I was happy to present to you about a year ago. If you have done so, I think you may be interested in the reaction of others by way of comment and review as indicated in the circular and the booklet which I now enclose.

If you have not found opportunity of examining it, I trust that the matter now presented may stimulate your interest to the point of doing so.

A main purpose in my preparation of this volume was to lay some rational foundation for an appreciation of the spiritual and artistic implications of the libertarian philosophy. I hope in addition, you have found in it some inspiration and encouragement with respect to the positive social resources that are ready at hand as an alternative to mere political reform.

I hope the world political situation has not been discouraging to you, in view of the long-term movements in history which constitute the general trend.

It is a satisfaction to be in touch with persons with fundamentally sound economic views like your own, and to hope for a wider and wider extension of your influence through many new years.

                        Sincerely yours,
