Carbon of a letter re Citadel, Market & Altar to Edward Teller, 1573 Hawthorne Terrace, Berkeley, California.
May 10, 1960
Dear Dr. Teller:
For a long time we have admired your patriotic sentiments and staunch resistance to the pusillanimity of so many appeasers like Lord Russell.
We are sure that a man of your moral quality and intellectual capacity must be at times dismayed to realize that all political governments are fundamentally alike —practicing the iron rule of loot and war as against the golden rule of mutual service by exchange, the only difference among them being one of degree.
As an alternative to this, we would draw your attention to the practical philosophy of security and peace inherent in the free enterprise technology so far as it has been applied.
The philosophy of an alternative mode of public administration is set out in the volume described in the circular herewith. If this matter seems worthy of your attention or compatible with your other preoccupations, I shall be most happy to forward to you free of charge and with my very high compliments a copy of the publication described.
Anticipating your interest, I am
Sincerely yours,
SH/m
