Every part of a plant is fed by the green leaf. The leaf is itself an organization of living units called cells. And each cell is a microscopic workshop in which the Spirit of Life, taking radiant energy from the sun, creates particular living structures out of the infinite repertory of its dreams.

And every created cell partakes of its Creator’s special dream. Implanted in it as its own is a Purpose to become, to multiply and develop in myriad association with its fellow cells into the specific kind and pattern of its full-grown form.

This purposing of its own specific development and growth is ineluctable. Events or conditions of its environment may prevent or distort its development but its general purpose and pattern will not change; no substitute pattern can displace the one with which it is first endowed.
