Letter to Heath from C.W. Colby, 1240 Pine Avenue West, Montreal, Canada
March 19, 1946
Dear Mr. Heath:
I am deeply indebted to Harold Roche for the initiative which has led him to effect liaison between us. His is a rare spirit and it always does me good to meet him.
Needless to say, this debt extends to yourself for sending me your monosyllabic version of the Lord’s Prayer, together with your “Inspiration of Beauty.” I fear my own vocabulary tends to become too largely Latinized, but I admire the greater impact of short words. I hope that before long I shall have time to analyze Shakespeare’s vocabulary with special reference to short and long words. It can be done quite easily via Bartlett’s Concordance.
At the same time let me express admiration of your own “Inspiration of Beauty”, which strikes and sustains a very high note.
I go to New York frequently and hope that ere long you will find it convenient to have lunch with me at the Century Club.
With sincere appreciation and “The Best of Wishes,”
Yours faithfully,
/s/ C. W. Colby
