Letter to Heath at 11 Waverly Place East, New York City, from Edward P. Rosenbaum, Board of Editors, Scientific American, 2 West 45th Street, New York City 36

February 2, 1954

Dear Mr. Heath:

Although it is true, as you point out in your letter of December 2, that light waves have some sort of motion in a direction perpendicular to their line of propagation there is no ambiguity in this. The velocity which is regarded as “absolute and fundamental” is specifically the velocity of propagation — that is the velocity with which the energy moves forward.

I hope this serves, at least partially, to answer your question.

Sincerely yours,

(signed) Edward P. Rosenbaum
