Letter to Edward McCrady, Chancellor, The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee
May 20, 1954
Dear Dr. McCrady,
It has been wonderful to be here again to enjoy the spirit of Sewanee and its many fine people who, like yourself, have been so cordial and so kind — especially Drs. Myers and Cross whose seminars have been delightful and inspiring.
And I cannot thank you enough for the trip to Lynchburg and the visit to Mr. Reagor Montlow’s model establishment, nor can I thank him enough for his hospitalities, including the two surprise packages that I never imagined were for me until you so kindly presented them for him. I am dropping him a line.
Remembering from a week ago our talk about the practical transition, soon or late, from political to proprietary public administration, I enclose a sort of prospectus of the practical next steps that seem certain to be taken as society evolves — omitting all the present and the historical factuality (inductive basis) out of which they seem most logically to emerge.
On this my second visit to the Sewanee community I have again enjoyed its very wonderful hospitality both of heart and of mind. I hope to return with a fine pair of theologically minded grandsons for the summer course beginning in late July.
Most cordially yours — and to all yours,
Enclosure:
