Dear Dr. Manion:

 

A few months ago some unknown person sent me a copy of the “Doctrinal Statement” of the Rev. Dr. Edward McGlynn, upon which he was, after long controversy, reinstated to his pulpit in the Catholic Church. Across the face of this pamphlet sent anonymously to me was written, in bold red letters, “Is this Communism?” This probably had reference to my booklet published by the Freeman Magazine entitled, “Progress & Poverty Reviewed and Its Fallacies Exposed,” in which I characterized the whole movement for the “socialization of land” as land communism.

 

     However that may be, I felt moved to make a public reply. It took the form of the enclosed pamphlet which I am sending you with my compliments and in the hope that it will interest you so that I may have your acknowledgment and possible comment.

 

     Your article in the current Freeman Magazine is both dramatic and tragic. I am myself up against the same difficulty as your friend, “John.” But unlike him, I am hoping to use a good part of what I have to publicize the fallacies of land communist theory and the part to be played by real estate administration as community services in the evolution of free society.
