Gentlemen:
It occurs to us that the NATIONAL REVIEW might welcome some suggestion for a solution of the Suez Canal problem by all the interested governments, including the Government of Egypt, sponsoring the formation of a proprietary (free enterprise) authority to administer the Canal properties under an ownership to which all parties would be committed and feel bound to respect.
Accordingly, we enclose copy of a rough plan we have set out along the above lines. Please give consideration to this point of view in your editorial comments on the current crisis. In addition, we should be glad to have your contributing writers make use of this material, with or without credit to us, in whatever article, critical or constructive, the present situation may inspire them to write.
With our compliments on the excellence of your journal of opinion, we remain
Sincerely yours,
SH/m
