Carbon of a letter of June 18, 1953, from Charles F. Noyes, Charles F. Noyes Company, Inc., 40 Wall Street, New York City, to Harold R. Bixler, Executive Vice-President, The Real Estate Board of New York, 12 East 41st Street, New York 17, New York (with copy to Heath), followed by Mr. Bixler’s reply of June 22, 1953
Dear Mr. Bixler:
Mr. Spencer Heath of 11 Waverly Place East is in my office while I am dictating this letter.
Mr. Heath desires to call the attention of real estate interests to the movement which he thinks is growing quite rapidly which is attacking real estate ownership and real estate interests.
Some time ago over the telephone I asked him to write me in detail in reference to this matter.
He came in today and handed me the enclosed letter dated June 18th and presented me with a copy of Henry George’s book “Progress & Poverty.” This I refer to you because you represent, as no one else does, the real estate interests.
I would appreciate it very much if you would look over Mr. Heath’s letter carefully and write him at 11 Waverly Place East and make an appointment to see him personally. I am entirely too busy at the moment to give this and other similar propositions that are coming to my desk any attention. I refer all matters such as this to you or to the Commerce & Industry Association. In this case I think it is a Real Estate Board matter.
Please give Mr. Heath the most considerate attention and if he has a proposition of merit kindly see that it is submitted to the proper committee of the Board that has authority. You will note I have sent Mr. Heath a copy of this letter.
Sincerely,
/s/ C F. N

Note: It is needless to say that Mr. Heath opposes this book and is only sending it to you through me as a reference and particularly to be read in connection with his blue brochure which I am also sending to you, in which he exposes the fallacies of the book.

Land Economics
Dear Mr. Heath: June 22, 1953
We have read with interest the information sent with your letter of June l3th to Mr. Charles F. Noyes, who has graciously passed it on to us in order that we could discuss it at your convenience.
The theories relating to land economics are brought to a state of formal discussion, from time to time, by others like yourself who have special interest and experience in it, and the Board is always glad to be further informed about such activities. We refer of course, particularly to your analysis of the book, “Progress and Poverty”, by Henry George.
I will be out of town for the balance of this week, and suggest that you phone for an appointment some time during next week. A vacation trip after that time will not make it possible for me personally to visit with you, although there will be others in the staff with whom we can arrange it, should that timing be important from your point of view.
Cordially yours,
(signed) Harold R. Bixler
