Carbon to John Archibald Wheeler, Palmer Physical Laboratory, Princeton, New Jersey, January 31, 1957, and Wheeler’s penned reply of February 10, 1957
Dear Dr. Wheeler: January 31, 1957
Some weeks, or was it months, ago, you were kind enough to give me a copy of your “SEPTET OF SIBYLS”. I read this with very great interest and profit. I think I dropped you a line or two concerning it. However that may be, while spending the afternoon in Princeton some days ago, I thought I might have the pleasure of spending a few minutes with you. There was no convenient opportunity, however; so, this is merely to say that I look forward to meeting you some later time.
I did have a few words with Dr. Hamilton which I enjoyed very much, concerning the esthetic element as the necessary inspiration for creative rationality. From the “SEPTET OF SIBYLS”, I am sure this is not lacking in you.
Speaking of rationality, it may interest you to see a plan that my foundation is proposing as a rational solution of the Suez impasse.
Sincerely yours,
SH/m

Dear Mr. Heath: February 10, 1957
This is to acknowledge with thanks your Jan 31 letter on my return from California, the interesting plan about the Suez, and your earlier kind letter about the Septet of Sibyls. Thanks especially for your little booklet; also for the reference to Bridges’ “Testament of Beauty.”
All good wishes!
/s/ John Wheeler
