Letter from William S. Schlamm, National Review, 211 East 37^th Street, New York City 16, March 14, 1957. Following his letter are words of Heath’s appearing as a letter to the editor on page 434 of the May 4, 1957 number of National Review, under the caption “Depth Charges,” presumably from the letter Schlamm refers to.

 It was extremely nice of you to find such heartwarming words of praise for my writing. You know how much it means to a writer to receive proof of a cherished reader’s response to what he does.

Depth Charges

 

I like Mr. Schlamm’s rollicking razzing of the stupid and the commonplace in the realm of entertainment and the arts, for I seem to sense deep undertones that make it playfully profound.
