April 24, 1957
Dear Mr. Heath:
Thank you very much for your letter of April 10th with the article commenting on Mr. Ohmann’s article “SKYHOOKS.”
It has been some time since I have read the Ohmann article, but I did not come away from it with the idea that he thought the business system was basically wrong. The notion that I got out of his material was that we need to be aware of a spiritual as well as material value in the operation of the capitalistic enterprise.
As I recall it, Ohmann’s article argued that “Man does not live by bread alone.” In our work we constantly come back to this conception and urge our member companies to provide nonmaterial as well as material rewards — such as —
Bringing people into the know;
Giving them a sense of belonging to the team;
Giving them a feeling that they can rise on their own merits; Etc.
You may be interested in the attached material indicating what we are doing in the way of defending the capitalistic system. We are strongly of the belief that human dignity is dependent on a capitalistic way of life and are hoping to spread this gospel as widely as possible.
Sincerely yours,
/s/ Claude Robinson
