Carbon of letter to W.M. Curtiss, Foundation for Economic Education, Irvington-on-Hudson, New York

August 22, 1957

Dear Dr. Curtiss:

It is about high time Spencer and I were sending you our thanks for the fine hospitality extended to us by the Foundation and some expression of our appreciation of the fine manner in which you conducted various sessions of the Seminar. For this was exceptionally well done.

t was a fine experience to meet the other guests of the Foundation and enjoy some of the warm personal contact which can so greatly enhance the satisfactions of similarity of outlook, not to mention ideas and ideals. Outstanding in this respect, though not exclusive, was the pleasure of renewing acquaintance with Dr. Wolman and meeting Drs. Rogers and Petro, whom we had met before. Incidentally, Dr. Petro has been our guest for a whole afternoon, and we were delighted with him.

Even though belatedly, I take great pleasure in presenting to you an inscribed copy of my CITADEL, MARKET AND ALTAR, long after first intending to do so. I am hopeful this volume will make a contribution towards the rational understanding of our very modern voluntary society. I trust you will enjoy reading it, and that you will be stimulated — perhaps also hopefully inspired — by some of its unusual points of view.

Again let us thank you for your delightful and instructive Seminar. With many kind wishes, we remain

Sincerely yours,
