Carbon of letter to Hon. Ralph W. Gwinn, Room 541, Old House Office Building, Washington, D.C.
September 24, 1957
Dear Mr. Gwinn:
Please accept our apologies for delay — with due consideration of the fact that the question of more efficient schools, meantime, has by no means been solved. Replying to your letter of July 30th, we can only refer to the Purposes of our Foundation, copy of which we enclose.
You will note that this Foundation is not permitted to engage in any kind of political activity. Its purpose is to promote knowledge and education by non-political means.
Your suggestion of great improvements in the processes of education are, in our view, very meritorious, provided they can be brought about through non-political administration. But we have not as yet made any special studies along these lines. It does not seem to us that political administration can be any more efficient in the conduct of educational services than it is in any other field.
On this score, we are pleased to enclose for your consideration, “A SOLUTION FOR THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM,” by Frank Chodorov, as it appeared in the December 2nd, 1953, issue of HUMAN EVENTS, and with which you may be quite possibly already acquainted.
We do not feel that any human problem, much less any social or economic problem, can be solved through the exercise of sovereign powers.
Thanking you for your letter and its interesting enclosures, we remain
Sincerely yours,
SH/m
