Item 2750

Three versions of a paraphrase by Heath of the Lord’s Prayer written at the request of Spencer MacCallum, who asked not for a simple paraphrase such as the one Heath did in words of one syllable, but for one that brought out what the Lord’s Prayer meant to him, considering his understanding of Cosmic Process. The first reproduced below may be the latest version, or it may not.

HYMN TO THE UNIVERSAL

0, Thou INFINITE and ALL

From whom and of whom we ever are,

May Thy Beauteous Order

Ever more evolve

And be Thy Wondrous Purpose

Ever more fulfilled

In us on earth as it is in all

More Beauty-Blossomed realms.

Give us Thy Bread of Life.

Renew our strength each day.

And bless us with Thy Beauty

and with greater knowledge

Of Thy works and ways,

That we may,

Ever more at one with Thee,

Partake in Thy fulfillment

Ever of Thy Perfect Law.

And as we still love those who

Turn their hearts away

So let Thy love abide

Whene’er we stray

From sense of Thee.

Let not a wearied spirit

Tempt us down to lesser realms

Not yet outgrown,

But let us ever rise

To greater works

In joy and harmony with Thee.

For in Beauty of Creation is

Thy Purpose and Thy Being

Ever more fulfilled.

So let Thy Beauty bless our labors

And inspire our dreams.

Thus may it ever be with us and Thee,

All Glory Thine.

From Whom and of Whom

We ever are,

Hallowed be the Name

That Thou art Called.

May Thy Beauteous Order

Ever more evolve

And be Thy Wondrous Purpose

Ever more fulfilled

In us on earth

As it is in all

More Beauty-Blossomed realms.

Renew our strength each day

And with greater knowledge

That we may, ever more

At one with Thee,

Partake in Thy fulfillment

Ever of Thy Perfect Law.

And as we still love those

Who turn their hearts away,

So let Thy love abide

Whene’er we fail or fall

To less accord with Thee.

And let no faithless spirit

Tempt us down to lesser

Realms not yet outgrown,

But let us ever rise

To greater works and joys

In unison with THEE.

In Thy Creative Purpose

And the Beauty of Thy Being

Let us ever dwell.

So may it ever be

With us and Thee —

All glory Thine.

     HYMN TO THE UNIVERSAL

O, Thou Infinite and All, from whence

we come, and of Whom still we are.

  • Thou in us and we in Thee.

Hallowed be the NAME that Thou art called.

Let Thy Beauteous Order increasingly evolve.

Be Thy Purpose ever more fulfilled in

us on earth. As it is in all more perfect,

more beauty-blossomed realms.

Give us Thy Bread of Life, Renew our

strength each day.

And bless us with Thy Beauty and with

greater Knowledge of Thy works and ways.

That we may, — ever more at one with

Thee, — partake in Thy Purpose, — in

Thy fulfillment ever of Thy Perfect Law.

And as our love still goes to those who us offend,

so let Thy love abide when our hearts fail of Thee.

Let not our lesser spirits tempt us down

to lower realms not all outgrown,

But let us ever rise to greater works

and joys in unison with Thee.

For in Beauty of Creation is Thy Purpose

and Thy Being ever more fulfilled.

So let Thy Beauty bless our labors

and inspire our dreams.

Thus may it ever be with us and Thee.

— All Glory Thine.
