Carbon of letter to Felix Kaufman, 533 West 232nd Street, New York City
January 17, 1941
Dear Dr. Kaufman:-
Recollection of my pleasant contacts with you in New York reminds me that I may possibly have the opportunity of meeting you again during the week of January 27th when I will probably be in New York.
Doubtless you are aware that I am arranging to have the possibilities of the proprietary — that is, the exchange relationship as the instrument for adequate distribution of goods and services brought under the scrutiny of competent minds. It is my belief, not to say discovery, that community proprietorship affords a positive and non-coercive method for the distribution and redistribution of sites and resources and of access to the public properties and services of a community. Taking this point of view — that ownership affords the means of distribution by consent and exchange — I am eager to have competent minds consider whether upon a proper understanding of this, a proprietary administration, adhering to the amenities of the market, might not extend its administration into a wider length of public service and affairs to the enrichment and raising the values of all concerned. I am sure an inquiry of this kind is right in line with the purposes and desires of all who look forward to a safer and more profitable conduct of public affairs.
Quite possibly while I am in New York, I can meet you down at the School and we can have a luncheon or similar period together. Perhaps you will let me know something of your schedule there?
Please accept my high compliments to yourself, and give my pleasant remembrances to Mrs. Kaufman for her gracious hospitalities.
Yours very sincerely,
Spencer Heath
