Carbon of letter from Spencer MacCallum, Waterford VA, to Earl Harding at 31 W. 12th Street, New York, NY

September 19, 1960

Dear Mr. Harding:

It certainly was a pleasure visiting you and Mrs. Harding with my grandfather, Mr. Spencer Heath, a couple of weeks ago.

A few days ago, I talked with Mr. Tom Johnson, research director for the American Enterprise Association, 1012 Fourteenth Street, N.W., Washington, D.C., about the possibility of constructing a canal through Nicaragua and gave him the information which you gave me about the study that has been made of this. Mr. Johnson appreciated the value of this information in the event of a crisis in Panama and has filed it with their Panama material, together with your name and address and that of Mr. Russell.

The enclosed page from one of their publications can give you an idea of their organization and activities.

Tomorrow I expect to fly west to continue in anthropology at the University of Washington, in Seattle. I hope I shall have the pleasure again of visiting with you and Mrs. Harding when I return to the East.

Sincerely yours,

/s/ Spencer H. MacCallum

Encl.
