A force of 1 dyne acting for 1 second is the force that can move 1 gram from 0 velocity to 1 cm per sec velocity. To do this it must move that gram ½ cm in 1 sec.
This is 1 dyne x ½ cm x 1 sec
This is ½ dyne-cm x 1 sec (action)
This is ½ dyne-cm(energy) = 1 erg
When X = 4. Then a gram has been raised from 0 to 4 cm per sec.
Average velocity was 2 per sec. So the energy imparted to the gram was the force of a dyne acting through 2 cm. So E = 2 dyne-cm. But more than 1 sec is required to give a velocity of 4. The velocity must be raised 4 times. So the energy will be 4 times
