A person who doesn’t understand something can write about it, and maybe he can write in ways that will be more or less entertaining. But he can never write it in ways that are enlightening. For my part, if I don’t understand a thing, I can’t write it at all. But I wrote this book, I can see, this energy concept, with­out understanding it fully. I had felt it in my bones and understood it rationally, and when I read it now, I think I made a marvelously accurate job of it.

/“You mean you understood it intuitionally, not rationally. Right?”/

Yes. I didn’t see the very basic fundamentals as clearly as I do now. I felt them, and felt they were there and all that, but I couldn’t tell it to somebody else in a perfectly clear and convincing way. I could to many people, but I mean in a way that was also clear and convincing to me. Something that wasn’t quite cleared up. Why people I am telling it to wouldn’t notice that.

/”It may be that you will understand this physics business a little clearer yet, and that then I won’t have any trouble getting it myself.”/

 

Well, we will understand more in detail, but when it comes to those basic fundamentals, I feel as though I’ve pretty well got it in my pipe where I can smoke it.

Even in this last thing I wrote, I had to go back and insert in “taken as an event,” or “taken in connection with its period” — write in those qualifications again and again. I had felt those qualifications, you know. I had felt what the situation was soundly and correctly, but I hadn’t felt those qualifications, that’s it. And so I had left them out. And as I went over it with more understand­ing, I realized that they were important to be in. I was sensing them as though they were there, without having brought them out.
