Speaking of social organization:
There is practiced among men a kind of relationship that is impersonal, reciprocal and potentially universal. It consists in acts of voluntary exchange, free from fraud or oppression, a contractual process, beneficial to all. This is order. Any other “order,” so-called, is chimerical — violence and destruction or slavery and degeneration. Order is heaven’s only law, the process of freedom. It may be gained or lost, increase or diminish but there cannot be two kinds of it. Civilization grows on it. There is but one alternative — slavery. The order of freedom may be compromised and for a time lost, but there is no substitute for it.
