Dictation to Spencer MacCallum, possibly for the Statement of Purposes of the Science of Society Foundation

August 1958

Mr. Heath is much gratified at a partial fulfillment of his hopes that other writers might have anticipated or even currently laid down a sound foundation for a realistic science of society carrying with it a genuine social technology. This anticipation has been in large measure fulfilled by the publication almost at the same time as Citadel, Market and Altar of a volume entitled, Toward a Natural Science of Society, being a compilation of lectures delivered at the University of Chicago in 1937 by the world-famed social anthropologist, A. R. Radcliffe-Brown. These lectures lay precisely the same foundation for a true science of society as this Foundation desires to promote.
