When the One-World Union that crucified the Christ went down and all its power to tax and seize was gone, a rude Barbarian freedom alone remained. Pirates, on land and sea, at last were free to trade, and in this new freedom could make and did make for their own observance the enduring and still prevailing rules and laws in which the com­merce of the modern world was born. All unwitting of its spiritual significance and creative power, they practiced the Golden Alternative to the Iron Rule that had so long prevailed. Such were the seeds
