Explanation of Book

The lag in development of Socio-political knowledge — Why?

In the Eastern lands always a succession of conquering kings.

In Greece political power (derived from the ancient patriarchal) shifted back and forth between Kings — democracies — demagogues — dictators — tyrants — Kings, etc etc.

Similar in Rome: Ancient patriarchs, then kings. Then republic with shift of seizing power from Patrician to plebeian classes and then demagoguery, dictatorship and a military despotism that finally destroyed all proprietary values and led to primitive nomadism.

In Europe — rugged country — recoalescence of social forces in proprietary feudalism while Eastern peoples retained despotism and became sunk in fatalism and phantasy.

Greece, Rome, Medieval Europe, Post-Roman Britain — all social growth founded on a class of proprietary noble class with both proprietary and political powers.

In America the king of colonizing European peoples themselves established proprietary nobles.

Power of Nobles only to bargain and sell the social values of public services.

Power of King to seize the social values of private services.

Taxation destroys rent and land value. Reversion to the nomadic state.

Political power most dominant in flat countries. Nobles hold out longest in rugged countries.

Egypt and Mesopotamia. Little or no record of the proprietary class. King early usurped all power — Succession of conquests.
