As the little boy said in his class, “Pins has saved lots of people’s lives — by not swallowing them.” And many a man has become a millionaire — by not spending it. The public must fall for that trick very often, the marking a thing up and then marking it down so the public thinks it is saving something.

/S.H. would poke fun at the adage, “A penny saved is a penny earned,” by saying with a straight face, “I earned a million dollars yesterday” — and then adding, “by not spending it.”/
