Verbatim pencil note by Spencer MacCallum from
conversation with Heath at Waterford, Virginia
December 27, 1958
Do you remember my saying that men’s actions run ahead of their thinking? That is the way it has to be. You cannot gain any basis for sound thinking except through experience. We must act empirically before we can act rationally. When we understand the rationale of this empiric, then we can employ it in a creative way. Then and then only can we employ this or any rationality consciously and creatively towards heart’s desires.
