Item 330
Typing on a 3×5 card by Spencer MacCallum recollecting a thought expressed by Heath while discussing the pendulum, walking around the top of the mountain in Montreal on a cold day
Fall, 1953
Life is like a pendulum that would swing forever if it were not slowed and stopped by friction. We would similarly live forever if it were not for the friction in our environment. What man must do then in approaching his immortality is “grease up” his environment, making it easier and easier to swing through it.
