The birth of Jesus Christ was at the center of the United Nations of His day, under a world peace imposed by Rome at the end of her Republican and beginning of her Imperial days. He brought a new light into the world; He proclaimed a new Kingdom of Heaven, a new kind of peace by love, not by force of arms. He showed the way to peace and joy within, and the creation of His Kingdom outwardly, to bless the lives of every race and creed in every clime.

He was the Poet who dreamed, the Seer who foresaw the vast spiritual and creative power that lay in the doing of His word, His Golden Rule command to enter into voluntary, contractual engagements with one another, to do each unto others as he would have others do unto him. Thus would all men love by serving and be loved by being served, a love that could be impersonal and thereby universal, hence divine. Under this relationship of contract without coercion, under this meeting of minds, each could abide by the will of the other the same as his own and thus all come into mutual freedom and brotherly accord. And by this loving by serving one another, all things and blessings would come unto them. And this new kind of kingdom would come unawares, unrecognized and unhonored, like a thief in the night, while it “suffereth violence and the violent take it by force.”

The non-political, world-wide system of contract and exchange under all the burdens and terrors of worldly power is the source whence cometh all fullness of life and increasing length of days.

This realm of mutual freedom among men is a part fulfillment of the promise of life abundant under which Christian peoples eat and live while whole non-Christian peoples for lack of Golden Rule freedom starve and die.

While we honor and revere at this Christmas season the Poet Sage and Seer Divine whose word and way is alike the key to abundant and to immortal life, may we abide in faith that His Golden Rule, as yet but half applied, will be no less potent for the healing of the nations in all their works and ways than it now is in the private enterprises by which our lives are fed and blessed.

The Science of Society Foundation is dedicated, among other things, to a better understanding and voluntary extension of the Christian system of free enterprise, the proprietary and thereby contractual mode of administration, into the realm of community services and public affairs.
