Concluding paragraph copied by SH from an article on physics, “Interaction of Matter and Radiation,” by Oliver J. Lodge, page 883 in the Encyclopedia Britannica, 1943. The last five lines, omitting the word “now,” might serve well in an article on Heath’s philosophy of science and the future of physics.

Letter dictated at suggestion of Spencer MacCallum on eve of his departure for the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, with the idea of transcribing it and mailing it the next time he returned to Elkridge, possibly at Christmas. However this was never done. Similar letters were to have been sent to Glenn Saxon and Percy Greaves.
