About 1959
When the particular life principle in us receives intimations of its outer and universal self it has an inspiration of Beauty. When so awakened the soul (as consciousness) stands in ecstasy — apart from its limited self.
When it surges forward tumultuously that is enthusiasm, passionate love.
When it outgrows its house of clay to bloom and fade again in statelier clay, then it begins a new cycle of fulfillment in its ever self-transcendence.
/Alternative form substitutes “measured space and time” for “house of clay,” so might combine them in this form: “When it outgrows its house of clay, its measured space and time, to bloom and fade again in statelier clay, then …” -Editor/
