At lunch had Mr. Young, art instructor — two-hour talk about art, its various inspirations and effects historically and the future possibilities of inspirational art with positive motivation. Man himself is the end product of creation, the epitome of value. Energy directed against the institutions of man is negative, degenerative. It must be employed, if ever, only in a subordinate way to heighten our creative values as the painter uses shadow in his picture. Destruction must be used only upon the non-human world, to serve man, not against him.
