Verbatim hand notes by Spencer MacCallum from conversation with Heath
Fall, 1961?
Vampire – I can’t live any other way.
Not because of its size, but the nature of government that
it must be avoided.
/Heath was here saying that to ask a politician to behave differently is no better than to ask a vampire to behave differently. The vampire would answer and rightly, “I can’t live any other way.” The politician and the vampire are only acting in accordance with their nature. It’s not because of its size, but because of the nature of government, that it must be avoided./
