Kinetic energy is called the “capacity” to do work at a certain rate. Then, if that rate is known, it also is called kinetic energy.

Mere capacity cannot be stated in figures, but when any work is done, there are figures. When this capacity takes effect, there are figures for work and a figure for time. The figures for work are two figures, force and velocity. And velocity is made of two figures, distance divided by time, which is a rate of motion.
