Item 747

Verbatim notes by Spencer MacCallum from conversation with Heath in which Heath said that if he could have picked his parents, he would have picked parents both of whom were musically talented; it was always a regret to him that he was not born into a musical family.

May 1956

I think a musical environment would have done a lot for me. I would have brought something to it, of course; I would have brought considerable intellect to it. I haven’t a single relative or ever have had or ever heard of a single relative who had any musical proclivities. So far as I know I’m the only one in the line who ever gave a damn whether they had any music or not.
