March 19, 1943

War is orthodox. War is just as irrational as orthodoxy. None but heretics can abolish it, for they alone are able to break from their past, either in thought or in deed, practice or belief.
Those who break new ground for new harvests are ever condemned by those in power who preside over wars and garner thorns.
True intellect seeks and soars; it does not shrink or cringe.
Intellectual thumb-twiddlers always shrink, look askance, and even deny the competency of their own minds. Traditionalists, indolent babblers of platitudes, cringers to authority or popular acclaim, have no masculinity of mind.
