What has been said in words will now be attempted in symbols of higher precision.
Since all precision must be numerical, this requires a numerical series and this series must have a base. For the base of our series we will take a quantity of energy that exists as the average amount of energy that enters into the structuring and the functioning of the population units in any given time. We cannot at present ascertain this as a certain number of foot-pounds per minute or of thermal or electrical units, but we do know that such an average quantity must exist and by giving it the value of unity may take it as the implicit base of a numerical series.
