King Midas in the days of old
Was ruthless, covetous and bold.
He laid his hands on others’ pelf
Until he had it all himself.
Emergency he then decreed
And craved a magic for his greed
According as the tale is told
That all he touched might turn to gold.
This happened very long ago
And may or may not have been so
But in this harrassed hectic age
It takes no wisdom of a sage
To give high credence to the tale
And of its moral make avail
Concerning kings and all we know
Of them, as politicians go.
