Item 1205

Exchange of penned letters between Heath at Roerich Museum Apartments, 310 Riverside Drive, New York, and John R. Booth, 142 Deer Hill Road, Danbury, Connecticut, who replied from Judge’s Chambers, State of Connecticut Superior Court, Danbury.

September 18, 1935

Dear Judge Booth,

On the night of last July 31st I had a traffic encounter with your son Walter C. (license 4688) on the main highway just south of Danbury. The young man very courteously accepted responsibility for the damage which fortunately was no more than a mashed fender on my car. He was kind enough to give me a memorandum with your name and address and acceptance of liability, which at my suggestion was stated not to be in excess of five dollars. A few days later I left for the South and have only recently returned to New York. I had the damaged fender repaired in Baltimore for three dollars but was unable to send the account to you because I had left the memorandum with your name and address in New York. It is therefore somewhat belatedly that I am sending this paid voucher attached to your son’s memorandum of liability with a prayer that you issue such order and rule upon yourself as you find warranted by the premises.

I hope it will not be amiss to congratulate you upon having a son of such character and courtesy as his conduct in this episode disclosed.

                            Very truly yours,

License number 4688

Dear Sir:

I received your letter of the 18th and forwarded it to my son, who replied with effect that while he did not in any manner admit liability, he considered that the letter from you was worth three dollars, to keep as a memento, and he would pay the amount himself, which I trust that he has done by now. I am returning the receipted bill.

Very truly yours,

John R. Booth
