Carbon of letter from Heath to London School of Economics and Political Science, University of London, London, England.

June 12, 1939

Original is missing.

Gentlemen:

The writer of this letter has been engaged for some years past in the objective study of human society as a natural phenomenon. In this amateur enterprise, in the best and proper sense of that word, he has taken considerable satisfaction in trying to make some original analyses of social institutions, and committing these to writing for the interest of a few friends and correspondents.

It has been suggested that your organization might be interested in an interpretation of the institution of property in land that seems to be based upon broader and more realistic premises than have been heretofore employed. A copy of this interpretation under the title “Private Property in Land Explained” is being sent herewith for your examination, in the hope that it may stimulate discussion of this fundamental institution, and the possibility of pro-social and equitable exchange relationships between a population and its public authority through the good offices of this institution.

You will be at liberty to use any of the ideas or material here presented in any way that you desire, the courtesy of acknowledgement only being requested. The present writer has no interests extending beyond the intellectual and artistic in this connection.

                               Very truly yours,
