Dear Mr. Wentworth:

 

As you perhaps know, I am looking forward to spending a few days in and around Boston between January fifth and fifteenth.

I have already made some arrangements through Mr. Codman and I hope to have further opportunity, through some recently formed acquaintances at Harvard, of presenting to a few (at least) competent minds the Philosophy of Henry George in its broader and more acceptable, not to say more attractive and profitable, aspects. I would like to have your assistance in making contact with desirable people. By this I mean people of warm human interests but whose intellectual faculties are still functioning reasonably well. I wonder if Roger Babson or any of his staff or associates would like to hear anything about the impracticability of taxation and with what vast profit to government and society, as well as to the individual it can and eventually will be avoided and abolished. I think you made some mention of being acquainted with him.

I also wonder if there might be anyone at Wellesley College who would like to entertain a brief presentation of the Philosophy of Freedom in its positive aspect, in terms of practice and achievement, with reference to how freedom grows, not how it fails to, or the historical and biological analogies that leave society no alternative but liberty or death. I am utterly convinced that in academic circles and among live business men a new and fresh intellectual and a keen practical interest can be aroused. You, of course, understand that I do not wish to be recompensed with anything but interest or attention.
