Carbon of letter from Heath to Edwin H. Spengler, Department of Economics, Brooklyn College, Brooklyn NY

January 17, 1941

Dear Dr. Spengler:

I remember with pleasure having a brief conversation with you some time ago upon the occasion of your giving me an opportunity to address one of your classes.

I expect to be in New York during the week of January 27th, and I would certainly like to sit down with you and discuss fundamental matters which, I am sure, both you and I recognize as of the highest social importance. I would also like to discuss with you some considerations of policy toward subversive doctrines and influences. It is of particular interest to me that we shall develop and present such constructive analysis of our present social structure and its endowment as to cut the ground from under doctrines of revolutionary force and make them appear as irrelevant and futile as they have in practice been found. A discussion of these matters with yourself and colleagues, or presenting them before some of your more serious students or groups would, I believe, be a matter of pleasure for us all and of profit intellectually and otherwise.

Please let me have your reactions to this, my invitation, for an invitation. Please suggest a suitable time.

With kind personal regards,

                            Very truly yours,
