Carbon of a letter to Clifford H. Kendal, 29 Bellevue Avenue, Summit, New Jersey
January 24, 1941
Dear Mr. Kendal:
I have yours of the 23rd with hospitable suggestions, etc. Unless you notify me that it is not convenient, I will arrive at your house sometime in the evening of Tuesday, January 28th. Do not expect me very early — somewhere between 7 and 9 p.m., probably. The next day I have an 11:30 luncheon engagement with Dr. Spengler at Brooklyn College, so if you are going into New York, it will be nice to go in together. Otherwise, I will have to leave you fairly early in the forenoon of the 29th.
Sorry you could not write me more about what you saw in Beckwith’s Forum. Much to my regret, I forgot to ask him not to publish my letter. I had intended sending him, perhaps, several communications that he could think about quietly before taking a public stand in opposition to them. You know I do not think very much of the technique of trying to knock anyone down in the realm of ideas any more than in physical combat.
Best wishes to you and Mrs. Kendal and Bob, and hope to see you Tuesday.
Sincerely yours,
