Letter to Devin Adair Garrity, Devin Adair Company, 23 East 26th Street, New York City
November 14, 1953
Dear Mr. Garrity:
Knowing your earnest opposition to communism in all its forms, it occurs to me that it might interest you to read the enclosed article exposing the fundamental fallacies upon which the argument for Land Communism (which of course includes all communism) as advocated by Professor Glen Hoover depends. Also criticizing an article by Dr. Frank Knight supposedly in opposition to land communism and presumably the best opposition to it that professional economists have in store.
I am circulating this article somewhat widely in connection with my critical analysis of the economic fallacies of Henry George. I also enclose my recent comments on conservatism and the conservative mind to which I have been moved in the reading of Professor Russell Kirk’s recent scholarly work of that title of which you are doubtless aware.
I feel that coming generations will be under a debt of gratitude to you and Henry Regnery, the Caxton people and a few others who are doing so much towards enlightenment of the public mind.
Sincerely, SH:sm
