Carbon of Heath’s letter from 1295 Richmond Road, Winter Park, Florida, To Edward McCrady, The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee.
May 2, 1954
Dear Dr. McCrady:
Here is a recent critique of mine touching the understanding — and the mis-understanding — of our basic social institution, property in land.
It is especially aimed to dispel the almost universally accepted concept of “unearned increment” — as though the normal market, real estate or any other, would distribute property or income to non-contributing distributees.
Like Aristotle’s dictum as to moving bodies, it is based on appearances only and is the key fallacy that for nearly a hundred years has blocked all rational progress in the realm of public affairs.
Cordially,
Thank you for your kind telegram of May first.
